Lou Reed Profile
Name: Lou Reed
Born: 02/03/1942
Reed first found fame as the guitarist and principal singer/songwriter of The Velvet Underground, writing about subjects of personal experiences that included, “Venus In Furs”, “Heroin” and “Im Waiting For The Man”. As a guitarist, he was a pioneer in the use of distortion, volume-driven feedback and nonstandard tunings.
In 1971 Reed began a long and successful solo career and had a major hit the following year with “Walk on the Wild Side”.
In 1972, Reed released his album Transformer, which made him a part of the glam rock culture. David Bowie and Mick Ronson co-produced the album and introduced Reed to a wider popular audience. It was Ronson’s arrangements that bought new aspects of Reed’s songs as on “Perfect Day”, which features delicate strings.
