Dolly Parton Profile
Name: Dolly Parton
Born: 19/01/1946
In 1980, Jane Fonda decided Dolly was a perfect candidate for her upcoming film 9 to 5. Parton received acclaim for her performance, receiving Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture Actress – Musical/Comedy and New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture. She also scored her biggest solo hit of her career with the title song, which she wrote and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. The song won two Grammy Awards for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song and reached No1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In March 2007, Dolly embarked on her European Tour and hit 17 cities and 21 dates and was a complete sell-out. It gained favourable reviews and took just over $16 million over the 21 shows.
She has received 7 Grammy Awards and a total of 42 Grammy nominations. At the American Music Awards, she has won 3 awards and 18 nominations. She is one of only 5 other female artists to win the Country Music Association’s highest accolade, “Entertainer Of The Year”.
