Madness are an English pop/ska band from London, that formed in 1976.
Their lineup has varied slightly over the years and now comprises Suggs (Lead Vocals), Chris Foreman (Guitars), Daniel Woodgate (bass guitar), Mike Barson (Keyboards), Lee Jay Thompson (Saxophonist), Chas Smash (Backing vocals, trumpet, acoustic guitar) and Mark Bedford (Drums).
They were one of the most influential bands of the late-1970s ska revival. However, as their career progressed the band moved away from ska and closer towards more conventional pop music.
Madness started achieving success in 1979 with the top ten singles “One Step Beyond” and “My Girl”. Over the course of the next 4 years they had 13 UK top 10 hits which made them one of the most successful bands of the 1980s.
The hits including “Baggy Trousers”, “Embarrassment”, “It Must Be Love”, “House Of Fun”, “Driving In My Car”, “Our House” and “Wings Of A Dove”.
The band's first notable musical award came in 1983 when they won an "Ivor Novello Award" for Best Song for the international hit "Our House".
They received another "Ivor Novello Award" 17 years later for an "Outstanding Song Collection". In 2005, they were awarded the Mojo Magazine "Hall Of Fame" award.
